Year 2000 Planning Document Policy Statement

Issued: Thursday, June 04, 1998

Statement of Compliance

All CyberMedia, Inc. software products have been tested and validated as Year 2000 Compliant*, and as such will not produce errors as a result of calendar date-related issues (see below). CyberMedia has adopted the U.S. Government Year 2000 conformance standard, which states: "Year 2000 conformity shall mean that neither performance nor functionality is affected by dates prior to, during and after the year 2000."

CyberMedia software products certified as "Year 2000 Compliant" have been tested and validated in accordance with CyberMedia’s compliance categories, as listed below, based on the de-facto industry standard document DISC PD2000-1 prepared by the British Standards Institution committee BDD/1/-/3, entitled "A Definition of Year 2000 Conformity."

*Year 2000 Compliance is dependent upon CyberMedia software being run on a computer system whose components are year 2000 compliant (e.g. hardware, firmware, software) and running on the Operating System for which the product was designed (see the software system requirements for each product).

CyberMedia Year 2000 Compliance Categories

Specifically, "Y2K" or Year 2000 Compliant* software from CyberMedia will:

  1. Function properly and accurately before, during, and after the year 2000.
  2. Properly compare, process and calculate dates and date differences before, during, and after the year 2000.
  3. Properly store, update, record, display and print dates as maintained by the computer operating system time.
  4. Correctly process leap years as defined by the Gregorian calendar and recognize the year 2000 as a leap year.
  5. Provide proper date data exchange when used with other year 2000 compliant products.

*Compliance is dependent upon the CyberMedia software being run on the computer operating system for which the product was designed (see the software system requirements for each product), on a computer system whose components (e.g. hardware, firmware, software) are similarly certified as year 2000 compliant.

CyberMedia Year 2000 Compliance Testing

Methodology

Following is the framework of test cases CyberMedia uses to test its software for Year 2000 Compliance. A compliant product must pass all cases listed below:

  • The product stores and calculates dates consistent with a 4-digit format into the 21st century.
  • The product does not provide the opportunity to enter 2-digit year data and recognizes year data consistent with a 4-digit year format.
  • The product executes date calculations properly.
  • The product displays leap year dates properly.
  • The product performs all date calculations using Y2K compliant API calls.
  • The product functions into and through the end of the year 2035.
  • The product displays the date consistent with the locale setting for date information.

All tests were performed on PC hardware and software platforms that are known to properly handle the Y2K transition.

Product Matrix

Introduction: Products will be certified Compliant if they pass all criteria as outlined in the Methodology section below. If a product does not pass all Y2K criteria it will be certified either "Compliant with minor issues" or "Not Compliant", depending on the severity of the failure.

All new versions of CyberMedia products (not yet appearing in the product listing) will be certified as fully Y2K compliant before release to the public.

CyberMedia software were evaluated as falling into one of the following four categories of compliance:

  1. Compliant
  2. Compliant with minor display issues
  3. Not Compliant
  4. Untested / Compliance unknown
