Q: I’m experiencing problems with First Aid
98, what should I do?
A: A conflict may have occurred when you installed First Aid.
Software conflicts can cause installation problems in Windows 95,
and happen when you try to install software while other software
is running in memory. There are literally thousands of software
titles on the market, and this makes it impossible to account for
all of the potential conflicts. As a consequence, the best way to
ensure a successful installation is to disable all memory resident
software before installing First Aid. Please follow these easy steps.
- Use Windows Explorer and locate your C:\Windows\Temp
folder. Delete all of the files in the folder, and then restart
your PC.
- Disable all software running in the background:
hold down the CTRL+ALT keys on your keyboard, and
then press the DEL key once. The Close Program dialog
box appears. Click End Task for every item on the list
except Explorer (if you have a lot of software running
in the background, you will have to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL
to bring up the Close Program dialog box to end each task).
- If you see only Explorer in the Close
Program dialog box, click Cancel.
- Now you are ready to run the setup program from
the First Aid CD.
Note: The above steps temporarily disable memory resident software.
To start these applications again, restart your PC after reinstalling
First Aid.

procedure and I am still experiencing problems. What should I do?

as a security violation. This is a bug that Microsoft introduced
in the final release of Internet Explorer. There is an update available
to First Aid, which will resolve this problem.

Q: I have a sound card that works fine in other
applications but I cannot hear the First Aid tutorial or help videos.
Why?
A: If the tutorial has no sound it could be because audio compression
was not installed on your PC. The default under some versions of
Windows 95 is not to install compression. To install it you will
need access to your Windows 95 CD.
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start. The
Start menu appears.
- Click Settings. The Settings menu
appears.
- Click Control Panel. The Control Panel
appears.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove
Programs. The Add/Remove Programs dialog box appears.
- Click the Windows Setup tab.
- Scroll down to Multimedia and click Details.
- Select the Audio Compression check box.
- Click OK and then OK on the next
screen. You will be prompted for the Windows 95 CD and the proper
codec: Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODEC.
Q: Why won’t the tutorial videos run in First
Aid?
A: If you installed Internet Explorer during First Aid installation,
you should not have a problem with the videos. If you installed
Internet Explorer before First Aid, you may have skipped
the Active Movie option, which is essential to getting the Tutorial
and How To videos to run. Reinstall Internet Explorer, and make
sure to select Active Movie during the installation.
Q: Why doesn't my browser connect to the Internet
automatically after I install First Aid 98?
A: When you run First Aid 98, it disables the setting in your
browser that allows it to connect to the Internet as needed. This
setting is enabled again each time you exit First Aid 98. If you
experience a First Aid crash, this setting may not be re-enabled.
You can easily reconfigure your browser to connect to the Internet
as needed by doing the following.
- Right click on the icon on your desktop labeled
The Internet. A pop-up menu appears.
- Click Properties. The Internet Properties
dialog appears.

message, "Content Advisor configuration is missing." How
do I fix this problem?
A: Please follow these instructions to reset the Content Advisor:
Registry Fix for Content Advisor

Export range, and click on Save.
- You now have a backup of your registry.
To restore this information to the Registry:
- Double-click on the backup file you created in
the above procedure.
Now for the solution to your problem:
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start. The Start
menu appears. Click Run, and type regedit in
the Open: text box. Click OK. The Registry editor
opens.
- Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
- Delete the Ratings folder.
- Exit the registry editor.
- Find the ratings.pol file in the Window/System
folder.
