CYBERMEDIA'S FIRST AID 97 WINS COVETED PC MAGAZINE'S EDITOR'S CHOICE

Troubleshooting Pioneer Beats Out Competition in Comprehensive Tests

SANTA MONICA, CA - March 19, 1997 -- CyberMedia's (NASDAQ:CYBR) best-selling business software program, First Aid 97, was selected by PC Magazine as the 1997 Editors' Choice for software tune-up and troubleshooting. First Aid 97 was chosen over three competing products based on an exhaustive review that tested each product's comparative strengths in reporting, diagnosis, tune-up, cleaning, and software troubleshooting. In recognizing First Aid, PC Magazine summarized: "Features that put it ahead of the pack include the identifying and fixing of corrupted Registry entries, the unfreezing of some applications, and a knowledge base covering over 1,000 applications. It's an excellent choice for those who want cleanup and software troubleshooting, with a bit of hand-holding thrown in." (April 8, 1997)

"We are very proud to receive this distinction from PC Magazine, which is respected and renowned for its thorough testing procedures," said Unni Warrier, CyberMedia's President and CEO. "This award reflects the fact that First Aid is not only an easy product to use, it is also the best at catching and fixing problems."

The Editors' Choice award follows on the heels of a string of kudos for CyberMedia's products. First Aid was also recently nominated for a Software Publisher's Association Codie Award as Best Consumer Software Upgrade Program, and was also named Hottest Retail Utility of 1996 by Computer Retail Week. First Aid has been a top-ten best-selling program in retail every month since November, 1995, with total sales in excess of 2 million units.

Software Troubleshooting Pioneer
PC Magazine recognized that "CyberMedia pioneered software troubleshooting and conflict resolution with the original First Aid." With continual improvements and enhancements since First Aid's initial release, First Aid 97 now provides several innovative features that few competing products, including the most recent introductions, can match:

  • First Aid contains a comprehensive crash protection module that intercepts both 16-bit and 32-bit faults and unfreezes crashed applications. However, unlike other products that claim similar features, First Aid also locates and downloads bug fixes to the crashing program to help prevent future crashes and lockups.
  • First Aid includes an comprehensive knowledge base for Windows applications that allows it to perform exhaustive feature-by-feature diagnostics and repair far beyond other troubleshooting products.
  • First Aid is unique in its ability to track and undo system file changes. This feature is particularly important for users who routinely add new cards and games, as many PC problems are triggered by such changes.
  • First Aid includes Dr. Solomon's FindVirus to detect over 10,000 viruses; with it, First Aid remains the only product to fix all viruses it finds.

"After careful evaluation, the results are in: This is one of the best utility programs on the market," said Ron Scott of Linear Progression, Inc. "We feel that everyone using Windows 95 should have this excellent program installed on their computer."
