CyberMedia and HP Join Forces to Provide Oil Change to The LaserJet Printer Market

Technology Partnership Will Make Driver Updates Available Over the Internet

Santa Monica, Calif.¾ December 2, 1997¾ CyberMedia (Nasdaq: CYBR - news) today announced a technology partnership with the Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP - news) that underscores the growing demand for the availability of integration and management features over the Internet. The two companies are collaborating to provide CyberMedia's Oil Change(TM) automatic software update service to update HP LaserJet printer drivers. (Drivers are small software programs that enable printers to communicate with various brands of personal computers.)

As a first step in the relationship, CyberMedia is working closely with HP to ensure that its customers will have timely access to Oil Change, which will enable them to download the latest HP LaserJet printer drivers and "patches" off the Internet. Drivers for the new HP LaserJet 4000 series of workgroup printers for Microsoft Windows(R) 95 are available now for all new and existing Oil Change customers. Oil Change provides users with simple, automatic access to updates for the latest HP LaserJet 4000 patches and drivers without their having to learn an installation program.

CyberMedia Oil Change is first service that updates personal computer software over the Internet by providing a "digital oil change." Oil Change automatically replaces outdated software and hardware drivers with clean, new updates. Originally introduced in September, 1996, Oil Change today has nearly 1,000,000 registered users worldwide, and has received numerous awards.

"Oil Change enables our customers to download the latest drivers off the Internet and manage updates quickly and easily. Its automatic update technology helps advance our goal of providing faster, easier integration and management features," said Joe Cooper, software product manager, HP LaserJet Solutions Group. "CyberMedia's focus on software updating and ease of use make it the right choice to support the LaserJet printers. Over time, we expect to work with CyberMedia on more complete automatic service and support solutions."

The HP LaserJet 4000 series printers offer the latest in network printing technology for workgroup customers, including enhanced driver support of printer features for the Microsoft Windows and Windows NT, Apple Macintosh, IBM OS/2 Warp and MS-DOS platforms.

"CyberMedia is set apart by its relationships. Working in advance with our Oil Change partners enables us to provide customers the latest and greatest in software updates right out of the box, when they most need them,", said Unni Warrier, President and CEO of CyberMedia. "We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with HP on other ways to support their printer users."
