Strategic Partnership Reduces Tech Support Costs for
Corporate Users; Makes Powermate Computers Easier to Use
SANTA MONICA, CA - July 15, 1996 - NEC Technologies Corp. personal computers will
now be easier and less expensive to use. NEC Technologies will bundle First Aid® 95
Deluxe, the best-selling instant technical support product from CyberMedia, with all of
its PowerMate® family of corporate personal computers, scheduled to ship later this
summer.
"NEC's PowerMate family of corporate PC systems will be easier to use, and less
expensive to support with the addition of First Aid 95 Deluxe," said Cliff Apsey, Director
of Product Marketing, NEC Technologies, Commercial Systems. "According to business
research firms, the annual cost of owning each PC in a network is about $11,900, and
system management alone can account for almost half of this cost. By offering First Aid
95 Deluxe to our customers, we hope to significantly reduce end user downtime and
system management costs for our customers - as well as reducing our own technical
support call volume."
First Aid 95 is a simple-to-use, self-help technical support software package that
automatically intercepts system crashes and solves many common Windows® 3.1 and
Windows 95 software conflicts. First Aid 95 Deluxe can significantly enhance user
satisfaction and reduce the number of technical support calls that software vendors,
hardware vendors and corporate help desks receive.
"We are delighted to be working with NEC to make their computers easier to use and
support," says CyberMedia president and CEO Unni Warrier. "At least 90% of the calls
received by hardware vendor tech support hotlines are caused by the software installed
on the machine -- not hardware itself. Yet the hardware vendor is the first to get a call for
help. First Aid can intercept crashes and fix many of these software problems
automatically, reducing the number of calls that hardware vendors receive."
For over two years, CyberMedia has been listening to First Aid users and vendors to
develop and refine to provide the best possible solution for their problems. First Aid 95's
unique AutoFIX® (patent pending) feature is a proven and tested technology.
CyberMedia has sold more than 1,000,000 copies of First Aid to more than 4,000 stores
worldwide. First Aid 95 is one of the top 10 best-selling retail software products in
America; in March, the only Windows 95 application that outsold First Aid 95 was the
Microsoft Windows 95 operating system itself.
Recently CyberMedia shipped First Aid 95 Deluxe, Network Edition, a special version for
systems administrators; and Oil Change, a new technology that automatically updates all
the software on a personal computer over the Internet.
