CyberMedia Announces Licensing Agreement with Microsoft

Agreement Licenses CyberMedia UnInstaller(TM) component for inclusion in Microsoft® Plus! 98, the companion product for Windows® 98

SANTA MONICA, CA – (May 4, 1998) – CyberMedia, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS0:CYBR), the leader in automatic technical support for personal computers, today announced a licensing agreement with Microsoft. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will use CyberMedia's file cleaning technology—a component of its UnInstaller(TM) software package— in a limited way in its Plus! 98 ® software companion package for Windows 98 users.

"We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Microsoft," said Srikanth Chari, CyberMedia's vice president of marketing. "This relationship with Microsoft is a clear endorsement of our superior technology for cleaning up old and unwanted files from Windows on the PC and we will be working closely with Microsoft to ensure the continued superiority of our UnInstaller software in the future. This agreement also significantly enhances our marketing efforts."

Microsoft's Plus! 98 product uses the licensed CyberMedia technology as part of its Disc Cleanup functionality within Windows 98, so that users can safely remove non-critical files from their PC. Plus! 98 users who desire additional cleaning features will be directed via a built-in hot link straight to CyberMedia's web site, where they can purchase the full-featured version of Uninstaller. CyberMedia will also be permitted to make promotional mailings about its products to registered Microsoft Plus! 98 users.
