FUJITSU BUNDLES CYBERMEDIA'S
FIRST AID WITH NEW LIFEBOOK' PCs
Strategic Partnership Will Make Fujitsu Computers Easier to Use
And Reduce Technical Support Costs
SANTA MONICA, Calif., November 6, 1996 -- Fujitsu PC Corporation(r) today
announced it will hot-load CyberMedia's (NASDQ:CYBR) First Aid(r), the
nation's best-selling automatic service and support product, on its
newly-announced LifeBook(tm) family of notebook computers. First Aid began
shipping on select models of the LifeBook series last week.
CyberMedia's First Aid is an easy-to-use, self-help technical support
software package designed to make PCs easier and less frustrating to use --
and less expensive for hardware vendors to support. By automatically
intercepting system crashes and resolving many common Windows(r) software
problems on the fly, First Aid can ultimately reduce the number of
technical support calls that software vendors, hardware vendors and
corporate help desks receive. About 200 million customer support phone
calls are made each year, costing vendors about $20 per call, according to
Dataquest.
"When Fujitsu set out to design the new LifeBook line of laptop PCs, one of
its primary goals was to simplify the user's life. That's why we chose to
bundle CyberMedia's First Aid -- it helps make our PCs easier to use and
more reliable," said Greg Chambers, vice president marketing, Fujitsu PC
Corporation. "First Aid will also make the LifeBook line easier to support
-- by reducing end user downtime and the total cost of PC ownership for our
customers, as well as decreasing our own technical support call volume."
"We are delighted that one of the world's leading PC manufacturers has
chosen CyberMedia as a partner," said CyberMedia president and CEO Unni
Warrier. "Fujitsu recognizes that today's computer consumers demand ease
of use and reliability. This is especially critical for notebook users who
are often using their PC while away from the office, on an airline flight
or on the road -- situations where it can be impossible to reach the
corporate MIS help desk or call a manufacturer for help. First Aid helps
make Fujitsu notebook users more self-reliant, by giving them a technical
support resource that is always available, 24 hours a day."
For nearly three years, CyberMedia has been listening to First Aid users
and vendors to develop and refine the best possible solution for their
problems. First Aid's unique AutoFIX(r) (patent pending) feature is a proven
and tested technology. CyberMedia has sold more than 1,000,000 copies of
First Aid worldwide. First Aid 95 has consistently been one of the top 10
best-selling business software products in America since November 1995.
