CYBERMEDIA KEEPS COMPUTER BLUES AWAY WITH A FREE OIL CHANGE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Ring in the Season with the Latest Updates, Patches, and Drivers Via a Full Version Free Week Subscription of CyberMedia's Oil Change Service

Available from December 25th Until January 1st

SANTA MONICA, CA - December 22, 1997 - CyberMedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:CYBR) announced its second annual free Oil Change™ holiday promotion, beginning December 25th and lasting until January 1st. During that time, computer users can receive a one-week subscription to the full version of CyberMedia's best-selling Oil Change service by visiting the company's web site at www.cybermedia.com and clicking on the Free Oil Change link. Oil Change provides valuable updates and bug fixes for over 3,000 software applications and games, including Riven®, Tomb Raider II® and many of the other hottest computer games of the season.

Oil Change, the world's first and best selling automatic software update service, uses the Internet to give PCs a "digital oil change" by automatically replacing outdated, buggy software and hardware 'drivers' with clean, new updates. And with a deluge of new PCs now selling for under $1,000, tech support hotlines are expected to be flooded. In fact, according to a study by PC World magazine, 11% of computers purchased arrive with at least one component "dead on arrival," making it difficult or impossible to enjoy that long-awaited game or hardware add-on.

Oil Change alleviates some of this frustration by delivering often difficult to find updates directly to the user's PC for problem-free computing. By reducing "search time" or curtailing futile calls to tech support, users can spend more time enjoying their new computer gifts and less time trying to get them to run. Additionally, as users download updates or patches via Oil Change, the volume of calls to vendors' tech support lines is reduced, easing the burden on support services and resulting in shorter queues for callers.

Now Supports Holiday's Hottest Games

Oil Change now supports the hottest computer games of the season by offering updates and patches for Riven®, Tomb Raider II®, Jedi Knight®, and Dark Reign® to name just a few. These games use the latest in three dimensional graphics technology, designed to make games more realistic and lifelike, putting users at the center of all the action. Unfortunately, if these games are installed without the correct video card or sound card drivers, users may not experience all of the features the game has to offer, or worse, they could experience chronic computer crashes or complications running other, unrelated applications. This season, CyberMedia is offering a free subscription for up to a week of its latest full-version Oil Change software beginning December 25th and ending January 1st -- just enough time to bring PCs into the new year with all of the updates, bug fixes and patches needed to keep a system running problem-free.

Oil Change, which usually sells for $39.95, makes it a snap to automatically update all of the software on a user's PC by finding the very latest software updates and hardware "drivers" for new printers, modems, sound cards, video cards and other add-ons.

How Oil Change Works

Once installed, Oil Change will identify all of the software applications and hardware drivers on a user's PC. It then uses the Internet to connect with CyberMedia's ActiveHelp Research Center which contains over 3,000 updates, patches, drivers and bug fixes. Next, Oil Change cross references the software on the user's machine with the latest updates in the knowledge base and delivers them directly to the user's computer where he or she can then select and install any or all of the updates, essentially supplying the PC with a "digital oil change." Oil Change also gives users the option to reverse any new updates they may not want by simply clicking the "Undo" button on the main screen. Users may even schedule

Oil Change to check for new versions of their software and drivers automatically - even while they sleep or are away from the office, enabling unattended automatic retrieval.

Computer users wishing to receive a free holiday subscription of Oil Change can do so by visiting the CyberMedia web site at www.cybermedia.com.
