CYBERMEDIA TARGETS FEDERAL PC MARKET
Appoints Former Digital VP Geoffrey A. Stilley
Vice President, CyberMedia Government Sales; Announces New Government Distribution Deals, "Federal PC Companion Kit"
Washington, D.C. - July 29, 1997 - CyberMedia, Inc.,
the leading supplier of automatic service and support for PC users, today announced an aggressive move into the government market and the formation of a Washington, D.C. office. The software firm named Geoffrey A. Stilley, formerly vice president Federal PC Sales at Digital Equipment Corporation, as its vice president government sales, and announced a new government software utility bundle - the "Federal PC Companion Kit".
CyberMedia also unveiled key federal reseller agreements with Data Processing Corporation (DPC) and Government Technology Services, Inc. (GTSI), and was selected July 9 as one of the 33 new particpants in Partnership America, the trademark government reseller program spearheaded by Ingram Micro Inc., the world's largest distributor of technology products and services.
These moves come hard on the heels of CyberMedia's selection as a key supplier in software.net's $50 million Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Internet-based software store contract, announced June 12. Under the terms of the contract, DLA can acquire up to $50 million of Microsoft, CyberMedia, and Intessera Technologies software over a five year term. CyberMedia's First Aid and Intessera's VueFinder are the only non-Microsoft products included in this deal, the largest electronic software distribution agreement in Internet history. The software will be distributed to up to 70,000 federal employees per year via the Internet, thus saving the government an estimated $30 million in packaging, installation and shipping costs and overcoming the security risks of manual software installation.
A veteran of the federal marketplace, Stilley brings more than 20 years' experience in government sales and marketing to CyberMedia. As vice president, Federal PC Sales at Digital Equipment Corporation, Stilley was responsible for capturing the $1.5 billion Department of Veterans Affairs Procurement of Hardware and Software (PCHS) contract - the largest contract win in Digital history.
Also at Digital, Stilley engineered the insertion of Digital PCs on the $2.9 billion Litton/PRC Navy SuperMini contract. Prior to joining Digital, Stilley held a series of executive positions in the Compaq and Xerox federal sales organizations. A Navy veteran, Stilley served eight years as a fighter pilot.
"With three of the top 15 best selling business software titles in America, CyberMedia has realized significant success in retail markets," said Anne Lam, cofounder and vice president, Business Development at CyberMedia. "However, to date, we have failed to address the huge untapped federal market for automated service and support. Geoff Stilley brings expert governement-specific market knowledge, channel relationships, and critical insights into product packaging. We intend to leverage Geoff's expertise to win and grow in the federal space."
"Expensive on-site support is often out of reach for budget-conscious federal agencies. CyberMedia has the tools to greatly reduce the complexity of PC operation and increase productivity," said Stilley. "We look forward to partnering with prime contractors to bid our entire product line on new contracts."
