CYBERMEDIA'S
FIRST AIDÒ
WINS PC MAGAZINE'S BEST
OF 1997 AWARD
Troubleshooting Pioneer
Beats Competition in Comprehensive Tests
SANTA MONICA, CA
-- (December 22, 1997) -- CyberMedia's (NASDAQ:CYBR)
best-selling automatic service and support software program, First
AidÒ 97, was selected by PC Magazine
for the "Best of 1997" award in the category of Diagnostic:
Tune-up and Troubleshooting.
First Aid 97 was chosen from all products tested by PC Magazines
labs this year as the Best Utility: Diagnostic Tune-Up and Troubleshooting.
The award appears in the PC Magazines January 6, 1998 issue.
"CyberMedia pioneered software troubleshooting and conflict
resolution with the original First Aid. First Aid 97 is even stronger
medicine for what ails your PC. Its nonstandard yet elegant interface
offers system tune-up, crash protection, and conflict resolution"
wrote John Morris, associate editor of the Best of 1997 article
(January 6, 1998)
"We are very proud to receive this distinction from PC Magazine,
which is respected and renowned for its thorough testing procedures,"
said Unni Warrier, CyberMedia's President and CEO. "Our goal is
to be able to fix many of our users computer problems before
they need to call vendor technical support lines for help. This
award reflects First Aids success with helping frustrated computer
users anytime and anywhere."
Earlier this year, First Aid 97 was also selected for PC Magazines
coveted Editors Choice award. First Aid 97 was chosen over three
competing products based on an exhaustive review that tested each
product's comparative strengths in reporting, diagnosis, tune-up,
cleaning, and software troubleshooting. In recognizing First Aid,
PC Magazine summarized: "Features that put it ahead of the pack
include the identifying and fixing of corrupted Registry entries,
the unfreezing of some applications, and a Knowledge Base
covering over 1,000 applications. It's an excellent choice for
those who want cleanup and software troubleshooting, with a bit
of hand-holding thrown in." (April 8, 1997)
About First Aid
First Aid 97 and the new version First Aid 98 now provide several
innovative features that few competing products, including the
most recent introductions, can match.
First Aid contains a comprehensive crash protection module that
intercepts both 16-bit and 32-bit faults and unfreezes crashed
applications. However, unlike other products that claim similar
features, First Aid also locates and downloads bug fixes to the
crashing program to help prevent future crashes and lockups.
First Aid includes a comprehensive Knowledge Base for
Windows applications that allows it to perform exhaustive feature-by-feature
diagnostics and repair far beyond other troubleshooting products.
First Aid is unique in its ability to track and undo system file
changes. This feature is particularly important for users who
routinely add new cards and games, as many PC problems are triggered
by such changes.
About First Aid 98
The new version of First Aid, First Aid 98, uses CyberMedia's
new ActiveHelpä Center
and the power of the Internet to automatically detect, diagnose
and fix most common PC problems. First Aid 98 automatically taps
into the continually updated knowledge base at CyberMedias ActiveHelp
Center to help users resolve new PC problems as they are discovered.
A consumer-friendly "How Do I ..." module provides easy
access to informative videos that demonstrate specific functions
such as how to adjust settings. It also includes "automated
tasks" that give users access to controls to adjust settings
directly from the First Aid 98 environment. First Aid 98 fixes
web connections and corrupted applications, features a simplified
User-Interface, emergency recovery from crashes, finds and installs
updates needed to resolve conflicts and updates itself automatically.
First Aid 98 Deluxe adds full anti-virus protection and a complete
PC cleaning kit in addition to First Aid's leading technology.
