NEW YORK, NY - PC EXPO BOOTH # 622 - JUNE 18, 1996 -- CyberMedia today
announced and shipped First Aid 95 Deluxe , Network Edition which adds additional
features to its award-winning, best-selling stand-alone version of First Aid 95, a software
product that automatically fixes Microsoft Windows® 3.1 and Windows® 95 software
configuration problems. The server-installable network edition adds specific features for
company networks and LANs and enables troubleshooting, problem notification and
problem corrections over most popular networks including Netware 3.x and 4.x, NTAS,
Banyan Vines and Windows for Workgroups.
As with First Aid 95 Deluxe, the network edition helps end users detect and correct
problems on their own without internal technical support assistance. Or, the system
administrator can configure the Network Edition for problem notification only. First Aid
then sends an e-mail message directly to the administrator's system whenever it detects a
problem on an individual PC or workstation.
"With First Aid running on your workstations, you'll no longer get a call to restore a
user's missing files when a GPF occurs - or reinstall Windows because a program has
misplaced a required system file," says CyberMedia president Unni Warrier. "First Aid 95
Deluxe Network Edition takes care of time-consuming Windows configuration problems
so system administrators can focus on more pressing tasks."
Adds Warrier: "The technology in the consumer version of First Aid has been endorsed
by over 1,000,000 users. The Network Edition brings the power of instant technical
support in a box to corporate networks -- yet adds features that give administrators
control over the PCs in their installation."
Fixes Problems Proactively
The Network Edition retains all of the proven and tested features of First Aid 95 Deluxe,
including the ability to detect and fix Windows software related problems, hunt down
faulty configuration changes and automatically restore a PC to a previous working
configuration when it fails to boot.
First Aid 95's RetroFix feature automatically tracks additions or changes to an individual
system. It can then reset the PC to an earlier working configuration if subsequent changes
have caused problems within the system. First Aid's Crash Guardian intercepts crashes
caused by general protection faults (GPFs) before they occur and lets users save their
work.
Maximum Control
The Network Edition adds four features specifically designed to give the network
administrator maximum control over its diagnostic and repair capabilities:
Notifies the IS staff when Windows application problems are detected, including crashes caused by GPFs.
Stores RetroFix and Startup files on the network where they are safe and available when needed.
Easily installs on the network.
Sets profiles to control user access to any First Aid feature.
Assists Internal Technical Support
Like CyberMedia's best selling Windows stand-alone product, First Aid 95 Deluxe, the
Network Edition provides an easy, step-by-step process for users or network
administrators to follow to keep PCs up and running. Using CyberMedia's unique
AutoFIX (patent pending) technology and an extensive knowledge base of PC
problems, First Aid intercepts crashes and fixes software problems and conflicts
automatically. This makes IS staff more efficient at solving problems, as well as letting end
users solve some of their own problems (with permission from a LAN administrator.) All
problems and fixes are reported and logged so the LAN administrator can undo changes if
desired.
All problem explanations are in clear language and, if further assistance is required, First
Aid's built-in CyberHelp Directory makes it easy to locate a software or hardware vendor's
technical support hotline or Internet site.
Automatic Updates with CyberFIX
First Aid's CyberFIX technology automatically interacts with the World Wide Web to
simplify the process of updating the First Aid knowledge base. It also makes it simple to
find, download and install updates to Windows 95 itself, such as the Microsoft Service
Pack One. CyberFIX also makes it easy to add new information to First Aid's knowledge
base so it can solve problems with new and updated versions of software products as
they become available.
To add the latest problem-fixing information to First Aid 95 Deluxe, Network Edition, users
simply click "Update First Aid." CyberFIX auto-dials their modem and connects directly to
CyberMedia's Web server. It then decides if the update is needed based on the version
installed on the user's PC and, if so, automatically compresses the file, transmits it and
(with user permission) decompresses it and installs the file in the appropriate directories.
The updates are provided free-of-charge.
Integrated as Part of an Enterprise Network Management Solution
First Aid 95 Deluxe, Network Edition, easily plugs into an enterprise network management
environment. It can use SNMP to collect statistics on the problems that are detected and
fixed by First Aid, then report to the network management console. An extensive
Management Information Base (MIB) includes rich computing information of users'
desktop PCs which constitute a significant piece of the overall network management
fabric.
System/Network Requirements
First Aid 95 Deluxe, Network Edition requires a 100 compatible 386 or higher, Windows
95, 3.1 or 3.11 operating system, 8 MB RAM, and a VGA or higher monitor on the
workstation. The CyberFIX utility requires an Internet connection using either LAN
TCP/IP access or a modem (14.4 or higher). First Aid 95 Deluxe, Network Edition, can be
installed on a server and installed directly to each node.
