Retail Software Leader CyberMedia Initiates Move into the Enterprise Market

Newly Formed Enterprise Group Developing Automatic Technical Support Products and Services for Small to Large Businesses

SANTA MONICA, CA. -- December 8, 1997 -- CyberMedia, Inc., (NASDAQ:CYBR) today announced a major company initiative to offer new products and services designed for networked business environments, based on the Automatic Technical Support technology it has already marketed successfully to over 3,000,000 small business and home office customers worldwide.

CyberMedia's new Enterprise Group will develop automatic technical support solutions - a new category of software and services that leverages CyberMedia's existing ActiveHelp(tm) technology to reduce the Total Cost of PC Ownership (TCO) for information technology managers in small businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 corporations.

The company today launched its first product in its CyberMedia Support Server (tm) line for the enterprise - CSS Repair Engine(tm) for Workgroups - specifically developed for small- to medium-size businesses as well as workgroups within larger corporations. An enterprise version of Repair Engine is planned, as well as additional products and services developed specifically to ease the technical support burden.

Automatic Technical Support;
A New Category of Help

"CyberMedia's impressive track record with consumer self-help tools convinces us that the company will succeed in building industrial-grade, business class user help tools," writes Gartner Group analyst John Girard in a recent report on CyberMedia. "To create business-class tools from their existing technology portfolio should be an easy task for CyberMedia; in most cases the scope of operations is reduced. Type-A organizations with restricted Internet access will gain valuable learnings by experimenting with First Aid and Oil Change immediately. Type-B organizations should consider entering early test programs for CyberMedia's future business-class products."

ActiveHelp - A Proactive Solution
CyberMedia's proven ActiveHelp technology can get out in front of reactive maintenance efforts. ActiveHelp, the Internet-enabled core of all CyberMedia products, is a combination of knowledge, technology and industry relationships. Leveraging ActiveHelp, CyberMedia is developing proactive solutions designed to offer specialized content needed to maintain packaged and proprietary enterprise applications, and to incorporate the organization's policy management rules.

CyberMedia's ActiveHelp technology is currently used by the over 3,000,000 users of its retail product line, by its hardware and software OEM partners to reduce their internal technical support costs, and is incorporated in hardware designs from leading vendors including AST, Sony, Fujitsu and NEC-Packard Bell.

Three Seasoned Executives Lead Enterprise Group's Marketing, Product and Partner-Building Programs
Vice President of Marketing Bob Davis -- Davis has overall responsibility for the development and marketing of new products designed to take CyberMedia's Internet-enabled, problem-fixing technology to the enterprise market. He previously held the position of vice president of marketing and business development at Iterated Systems in Atlanta. As senior vice president of corporate marketing at Novell, Davis oversaw the integration and coordination of the product marketing strategies for the company's many divisions. Prior to that, Davis was VP and general manager of Novell's Connectivity Products Division, which successfully pioneered Novell's growth in the enterprise market with the integration of a full TCP/IP product line.

Strategic Relations Manager Gordon Rielly -- Rielly is responsible for developing relationships with industry partners who provide solutions to Fortune 500 companies . These partners and alliances will actively contribute enterprise-oriented content to CyberMedia's ActiveHelp knowledge base. Rielly was the founder and CEO of Asset Software International, a pioneer in the Enterprise Asset Management market, where he was instrumental in defining and developing the Asset Management marketplace in conjunction with standards bodies such as The Desktop Management Taskforce. He has been actively engaged in industry efforts to reduce IT infrastructure and support costs. Rielly started his career with Ernst & Young and has extensive experience in both the private and public sectors.

Enterprise Product Manager Ken Mackin -- Mackin is responsible for defining and marketing a series of products and services based on the Microsoft Windows(r) NT platform which will offer automatic service and support solutions for networked environments. Mackin comes to CyberMedia from Intel, where he was manager of systems management strategy in the emerging technologies group, represented Intel on the board of the Desktop Management Task Force, developed the prototype specification for Wired for Management, and analyzed and recommended positioning of systems management issues to Intel's executive staff. A former editor and lab director at LAN Magazine, Mackin has written product reviews for major trade magazines, including PC Magazine, ComputerWorld and Network Computing.

A Commitment to Standards
At the core of the CSS product line is a commitment to supporting existing and future industry standards, and developing "open" solutions that leverage an organizations existing investment in hardware, software and technology. CyberMedia recently joined Microsoft, Lotus, Netscape and Marimba to define and support the Open Software Description Standard, the first open industry specification that will help automate software distribution over the Internet, and thus reduce the total cost of PC ownership for corporations.

A Commitment to Partnerships
Also at the core of CyberMedia's ActiveHelp strategy are relationships with hardware vendors, software application vendors, Internet service providers, help desk software suppliers and technology partnerships, such as the company's recently announced content partnership with ServiceWare.

Relationships with these partners enable CyberMedia to function as a "Swiss-neutral" clearing house for technical support knowledge, which is then incorporated in CyberMedia's central ActiveHelp knowledge base and used intelligently by all of its products to help resolve software and hardware problems. CyberMedia's current partners include: AST, NEC-Packard Bell, Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu, Motorola, Diamond Multimedia, Sony, America Online, CompuServe, Earthlink, Mindscape, Netscape, ServiceWare, Trend Micro and Phoenix Technologies.
