Former Novell VP Joins CyberMedia as VP of Marketing

Plans to Expand Company Beyond Retail Market,
Become Major Player in OEM, Corporate Channels

SANTA MONICA, CA -- AUGUST 6, 1997 -- In the latest development in it's long-range plan to become the computer industry's dominant provider of automatic service and support technology, CyberMedia, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: CYBR), today announced that Robert Davis has joined the company as vice president of marketing.

In his new role at CyberMedia, Davis will be responsible for the development and implementation of the marketing plans for all of CyberMedia's Internet-enabled, problem-fixing software products which currently include First Aid®, Oil Change(tm), UnInstaller® and Guard Dog(tm), and develop a long-range plan to introduce new versions of these technologies to the corporate enterprise market.

"We have already experienced significant success in the retail marketplace, with three of the top 15 best selling business software titles in America, and an expanding retail presence in Japan and Europe. However, in order to expand far beyond the retail market and begin to unlock the huge potential of automatic service and support technology within the OEM, corporate and government markets, we needed Bob's significant experience and success in the corporate marketplace, and his proven expertise managing a marketing team within a much larger, multi-billion dollar corporation," said Unni Warrier.

Davis joins CyberMedia from Iterated Systems in Atlanta where he held the position of vice president of marketing and business development. As Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Novell, Davis oversaw the integration and coordination of the product marketing strategies for the company's many divisions. Prior to that, Davis was VP and general manager of Novell's Connectivity Products Division, which successfully pioneered Novell's growth in the enterprise market with the integration of a full TCP/IP product line. This experience will prove vital as CyberMedia begins to expand it presence in the corporate market with the addition of a line of Intranet and Microsoft Windows® NT products this fall.

Dr. Srikanth Chari, who has, since the company's inception, been vice president of marketing, will assume the newly-created position of vice president, strategic marketing. One of the company's six original founders, Dr. Chari will focus on long-range strategic planning and industry partnerships as the company moves beyond it's successful role as a retail software developer to realize its goal of becoming an industry-leading service and support provider.

CyberMedia's products comprise 11.2% of the top 25 retail business titles sold in 1996, according to PC Data. The company's retail software products, First Aid, Oil Change and UnInstaller, are three of the top 15 bestselling business software titles in America, and CyberMedia continues to grow rapidly. The company was been named the fastest-growing software company in the US in 1996 by Standard & Poors and Broadview Associates, was named the seventh-fastest growing public company in Los Angeles County by the Los Angeles Business Journal and was ranked one of the 500 largest software companies in the world by Software Magazine.

Automatic Service and Support
CyberMedia's software products work with each other to automatically diagnose, fix, update, clean and protect PCs from a wide array of potential problems. The products are built on a common architecture called "ActiveHelp(tm)." Each CyberMedia product runs locally on the PC to diagnose problems. Then, once a problem is identified, it automatically uses the Internet to tap into CyberMedia's "ActiveHelp(tm)", an exclusive, detailed knowledge base of continually-updated, problem-solving information. These problem fixes and updates are then automatically delivered to the user's PC.

The products include First Aid, to fix Windows problems automatically; Oil Change, to update PCs with the latest bug fixes, patches and drivers; UnInstaller, to clean Window's applications; and PC Guard Dog, to protect PCs from Internet intruders and viruses. Special customized OEM versions of these products are also available pre-installed on millions of hardware products from leading PC makers and distribution partners including AST, CompUSA, Fujitsu, Sony, Packard Bell-NEC and Phoenix Technologies.
