SYMANTEC ORDERED TO STOP SELLING, STOP ADVERTISING AND IMMEDIATELY RECALL FROM CHANNEL ALL NORTON UNINSTALL DELUXE

Court Grants Cybermedia’s Request For Injunction

SANTA MONICA, CA – September 4, 1998 – The United States Federal Court in San Jose, CA today ordered Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) to stop shipping Norton Uninstall Deluxe and all suites and bundles containing the infringing code, CyberMedia (Nasdaq: CYBR) announced today. The court found CyberMedia was likely to succeed in proving that Symantec infringes CyberMedia’s copyright on their market leading product UnInstaller.

Under the court’s order, Symantec must issue a "Notice of Recall" regarding Norton Uninstall Deluxe informing its distributors that distributing this product may expose them to liability as a contributory infringer. Symantec must also cease manufacturing, selling, distributing, and advertising this product and any suites and bundles containing the infringing code.

"This sweeping injunction reemphasizes CyberMedia’s role as a technology leader," stated Kanwal Rekhi, CyberMedia's chairman and CEO. "We feel vindicated by the ruling and will be seeking a significant damages recovery at trial."

CyberMedia filed suit against Symantec in February asserting claims of copyright infringement and theft of trade secrets. According to the suit, the computer code in Symantec's product, Norton Uninstall Deluxe, was derived from CyberMedia's UnInstaller™ program. CyberMedia is represented in this matter by Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati.
