CyberMedia's First Aid and Oil Change Will Be Bundled with Every CompUSA Extended-Service Agreement

Major Retailer Chooses CyberMedia's Automatic Service and Support Software to Reduce Tech Support Costs

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 27/PRNewswire/ CyberMedia, Inc. (Nasdaq:CYBR) today announced that leading computer retailer CompUSA will bundle customized versions of CyberMedia's First Aid 97 and Oil Change software with every extended service protection agreement that it sells when customers buy a new personal computer. Under the agreement, CompUSA will include custom-tailored versions of CyberMedia's best-selling software products with hardware from virtually every major PC vendor, enabling CyberMedia to reach hundreds of thousands of potential new customers. The bundle will begin shipping with PCs in August 1997.

The CyberMedia bundle will help CompUSA lower their technical support costs as well as providing greater value to PC buyers who opt to purchase an extended warranty. By encouraging new PC owners to use First Aid and Oil Change when PC problems strike, CompUSA's extended service protection agreement now includes a first line of defense that can automatically heal software problems before customers need to call vendor support lines for help.

The special version of CyberMedia software bundled with CompUSA warranties is customized to update and fix problems with more than 15 of the best-selling products that are typically bundled with new PCs - including Microsoft Windows (r) 95, Works, Money, Encarta, and Bookshelf; Corel Draw; Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia 97; Quicken; Sim City Classic; CompuServe; America Online and Netscape Navigator.

"By including CyberMedia's software with our extended warranty we can increase our customer's satisfaction with their new PCs and add value to their extended service protection coverage," said Larry Mondry, Executive Vice President, Merchandising of CompUSA.

"We are delighted that CompUSA has selected CyberMedia as its partner in our effort to collaborate with industry-leading companies to reduce the PC technical support crisis and make computers easier to use and maintain," said Unni Warrier, President and CEO of CyberMedia. "This agreement is a total win-win for both of us - CompUSA gets happy customers and fewer support calls, and we get the exposure and promotional benefits of having our automatic service and support software pre-installed on thousands of new PCs from dozens of leading vendors."

According to CyberMedia's research, up to 90% of the problems that prompt service calls are not hardware problems but are actually caused by software conflicts or outdated drivers - small software programs that help modems, printers and other peripherals communicate with the PC. CyberMedia's award-winning First Aid 97 software help automatically fix these PC conflicts while Oil Change provides the latest software updates and "bug" fixes, and updates the "drivers" needed for the modems, cards and other peripherals that come pre-bundled with most new PCs.

The special versions of First Aid 97 and Oil Change will be fully-functioning versions for six months. First Aid 97's system diagnostics will continue to function 100% to assist CompUSA technical support staff, and users will be offered incentives to return to CompUSA stores to purchase the full retail versions of CyberMedia's products.
